Great but comes with lots of junkware!
4 out of 5 stars.
Great hard drive, however it seems to come bundled with lots of rubbish applications. A quick format will remove most of them (and formatting to NTFS so you can store big files on it!)

However drive still installs a Virtual CD Rom drive with a Password Manager which will cause it not to work with lots of devices! A quick google for "Freecom ToughDrive Virtual CD Removal Tool" quickly solves this!

Would give it 5 stars, but the Virtual CD Rom and rubbish applications makes it a 4 star.

Peace of mind

After having several computer crashes with a loss of information I've found this backup device gives me 'peace of mind', saving all my files as I use and close them.
Also I can travel with this little rubber coated hard drive and plug into any computer knowing all my files are at hand.
Easy to setup, plug in and then it runs itself.

Drive is OK but Freecom Support is not.

I bought my ToughDrive from Amazon 9 months ago. I was ment to be used as a portable back-up.
It has a reliability issue, sometimes works well sometimes doesn't work at all. A non working back-up is of very little use.
I have tried to contact Freecom support a number of times. I have phones 'all operators are busy - leave a message and we will get back to you' No they don't. Tried an Email via their site, two weeks on still no reply. I phoned again, got through, I was told I would have to fill an on line form, a label would be sent to me and I could then return the drive (at my expense) for repair, two weeks on no label, nothing.
I have now decided to give up on Freecom and bought a Buffalo instead.

Very Good, Quick and Reliable
5 out of 5 stars.
I've had my Freecom 160GB Toughdrive for over 6 months now and I'm still very pleased with it. It's very simple to use, once or twice a week I just plug it into the USB port, open up the nice user friendly software that comes with it, set it going and its done in a couple of minutes.

EDIT: Since I wrote this review there was a problem with my computer, my hard-drive broke and it needed replacing. Luckily for me it was completely stress free because I was backing up evrything on my ToughDrive so lost nothing. If you're unsure about buying a back up hard drive, do it! You never know what could happen!

Freecom toughdrive
4 out of 5 stars.
Great for storage, easy to use and compact. Tough as well. Really pleased. However 10 months old - total failure just made a clicking sound. Big pain but had data backed up. Returned to Freecom - 4 days later a new one under warranty, can't fault the customer service
