Editorial Reviews:
It?s hard to remember a science fiction series that has hit so big so quickly. Yet by the end of the first series of Heroes, it feels--for all the right reasons--that the show?s been around for longer than it has, such is the huge amount of success it?s enjoyed.

The setup is simple, yet undeniably intriguing. It essentially tells the stories of a series of people who discover they have legitimate, differing superhero powers. On top of that, these people then gradually appreciate that these powers are needed for reasons that soon become apparent, and the story of Heroes builds up from there.

Heavily influenced by comics both in its structure and story, Heroes sustains interest through a number of story arcs of different magnitudes, skilfully weaving them throughout the 23 episodes that make up the season. It?s contained enough to keep you interested, yet offers enough threads to make several more seasons a very appealing prospect.

Heroes, though, really gels because the basics are right. It?s plotted intelligently, written and directed with real nerve and talent, and has a cast who you can?t help but get emotionally involved with. It?s also, for the overwhelming majority of its episodes, utterly compelling television. Ironically, its few miss-steps of any note come right at the back end, by which time you really would forgive it pretty much anything.

Heroes is rightly being heralded as a sci-fi classic in the making. Yet even if subsequent seasons don?t fully do justice to those words--and at the time of writing, season two is still some way from debuting--this boxset will serve as a glowing testament to just how good television can be when it?s just done right. Quite brilliant. --Jon Foster

heroes season 1
4 out of 5 stars.
After really getting into the big american shows like Lost and Prison break I was really excited to see this new tv show Heroes being advertised on the BBC. The origional premis of Heroes sounds a bit sad to be honest, imagine a group of people who realise they have super powers, thankfully it isnt lame and instead it is fantastic , exciting viewing, The boxset features all 23 episodes of this dramatic show , as well as a never before seen pilot, so lets have a closer looks shall we ?

===Appearence===
The box is black with the Heroes logo and eclipse in the background, below this is "The complete season 1" as seen on the BBC, This is the same on the side. On the back it states "programme of the year" from the television critics award's 2007 followed by all the main heroes charcters standing together , minus sylar. Following this image is the usual patter about enjoying the dramatic , excting tv show in its entirety and enjoy the 7 discs and hours of bonus features. Below this is one of heroe's nice little features , the contant links to comic book art, A text box is featured showing what bonuses their are, 71 minute never before aired pilot , dleted scenes on every episode on every disc, the making of heroes, special effects, the stunts , profile of the heroes artist tim sale, the score and audio commentries.
This is quite a good boxset build as it does repay you for buying the season , unlike some other shows where the only extras is a few deleted scenes, it has almost 3 hours of extras.

===Story===
All the characters (about 12 main characters) have their own stories and special moments which lead them to one defining , predicted moment where new york goes nuclear. As the season goes on the characters develop at a steady pace and you see the way their abilities are changing the way that they usually act , and wether they are using them for good or for evil. The story is very gripping and the episodes are made in a way that your not overwelmed by the amount of characters , e.g. you have a episode where it follows 2 characters and no one else allowing you to get a good insight into what their all doing. Each episode of the series is about 40 minutes which is a good amount to fit in the action without it getting boring as their is never really a dull moment in each episode. The story is a lot easier to follow than its big rival lost , it focuses more on peoples actions and consequences rather than lost's character cross overs and flashbacks, this has a much easier timeline to follow.

===Cast/Characters===
The cast is made up of what i deem to be , pretty unkown at the time of making the show. This of the upmost importance as it is about regular people discovering their abilities , the realism would be lost is characters were a list celebrites.
some of the big characters in the show are :
Hayden panattiere as claire bennet
Jack coleman as noah bennet
Santiago carberra as issac mendez
Tawny cypress as simone devaux
Greg gunberg as matt parkman
Ali larter as nikki sanders
Leonard roberts as DL
Noah gray-cabey as micah sanders
Masi oka as hiro nakamura
Adrian pasar as nathan petrelli
Sendil ramamurthy as dr.suresh
Milo ventimiglia as peter petrelli

The acting from all of these characters is very good and many have now got into films because of their ability to perform on heroes.

===Overall===
If you enjoy big , blockbuster american shows then im sure you would love Heroes.

Great show...DVD lacks quality
3 out of 5 stars.
Obviously alot has been said about this show before, and it is one of those live it or hate kind of things. Personally, I think it's the best drama on tv as I feel Lost is too pretentious and flashforward is just rather dull. Sons of Anarchy is good, but a little too unrealistic.

So there is no problem with the show, perfectly good entertainment really. But I do find that thebplay all feature on each disc means that, when you reach the second or third episode on whichever disc you are watching, the vid and audio go out of sync quite badly. Almost to the point where you may aswell be watching a badly dubbed 70's Kung Fu movie. Not sure if it is the boxset or just my player (watching them on an xbox 360) but it's quite annoying.

But I shall still give it three stars as an average...5 if it weren't for the piss poor quality of the package itself...

Dissapointingly Awful
1 out of 5 stars.
The best thing about Heroes is the premise of the show. However, if you like 1 dimensional characters, terrible script writing and predictable plot lines littered with contradictions, then this is the show for you. As the concept of Heroes is introduced to the audience the show slowly drags out a generic story line that is banal and totally bereft of any new ideas.

The really annoying thing about Heroes is that it had the potential to be a fantastic show; it certainly doesn't lack for budget. The characters, script and plot are so dreadful though that the show never gets going. It would be easy to walk in and out during any episode and not miss anything crucial as nothing ever seems to happen. Crucially the juxtaposition of mortals and Heroes is handled clumsily. This means the only people effected by the global event that the show crawls along too, are these supposed extraordinary individuals, which leaves the audience totally marginalised.

Heroes had the ability to subtly address many social/political issues in the world questioning our own ethics and morals within it. Instead we are patronised with dross that wallows in glossy triviality making it one of the most pointless and profligate TV series to come out of America. In a time where there seems to be no dearth of talented program makers and script writers, it's amazing a show like this receives such high publicity and commendation.
